This is my cat. It is named after Hedy Lamarr, an Austrian-American moviestar/inventor. While starring in hit movies and quickly becoming a highly successful star of Hollywood, Lamarr invented together with her neighbor, the composor/writer/inventor George Antheil, a torpedo guidance system. The system used rapid changes of operating frequency as a means to avoid jamming attempts. This frequency hopping, originally based on a piano roll used for self-playing pianos, is the basis for much of the digital communication technology of today like Wi-Fi, Bluetooh, GSM and much more.
